On the last day of January, Altamont basketball played rival Indian Springs. The boys JV, varsity girls, and varsity boys games were thrilling. To start the evening, the JV boys played with intense effort and intensity but fell short of winning the game. The girls varsity team played some of their best basketball all year to try to overcome a size disadvantage, but they fell short as well.
The boys varsity team came into the game hungry for revenge. The Knights had not beaten Indian Springs in the past three contests. And any game against our arch-rival is for bragging rights. Altamont came into the game with a record of 11 and 11, while Springs was 8 and 4.
From the tipoff, fans knew it was going to be a nail-biter. Springs came out hot, scoring 15 points right away and still leading going into the second quarter. The Knights reduced their deficit to one point by halftime. In the second half, it was all Altamont. The Knights scored 29 points in the half alone. In the fourth quarter, they blew the game open and took home the victory. The final score was 51 to 34. Eighth-grade star Greyson Horton led the way in scoring with 11 points, including one three-pointer. Senior Clayton Hemingway finished the game with 9 points.
